Artists as cultural leaders of their society are uniquely placed to visually comment on creation, the nature of contemporary life, and the values good and bad, of the society they find themselves living in. Artists as leaders of society are able to have a broad, reflective approach to the past, present and future, that can act as a mirror, to society and help it see itself as it really is, where it has come from and where it is going. Artists as leaders have a role to play in contributing to the debate as to who and what we are as a society.
A healthy society can only function correctly, if it values artists for their leadership in visual culture.
