My personal experience of working with large international businesses has not been the most rewarding in the last few years. For creative people the hierarchical decision making and obsession with profit margins can be stifling. I made this painting as a response to finally leaving my close association with an international business.
Although there were no tears, it was with some sadness and internal conflict that decisions had to be made.
In this picture I have used heightened colour to convey heightened emotions and used a symbolic screaming mouth to represent the pain of working in corporate chaos. There is a tongue out and eyes representing anger, and the omniscience of God who sees everything.
My painting practice includes a healthy dose of unpredictability which for me makes art both fun, spontaneous, and full of surprises.
For much of my working life the corporate world has been a place of stability and a blessing. But seasons change, and so must we in order to stay in step with who we have become.”
