THREE FALLEN ANGELS FROM AN APOCALYPSE

“This is loosely inspired by one of several interpretations from the book of Revelation from the Christian bible. Chapter 6 from the book of Revelation outlines various disasters might take place on a scale never seen in the history of the world. In my picture I have not attempted to portray particular events. I have simply imagined three angels representing war, death and famine falling to earth to begin their reign of destruction. The book of Revelation as a whole is extremely complex, and there is a wide scope of academic theological debate as to what these mysterious scriptures mean. Wether this particular 'Futurist' and rather depressing account of events will take place or wether it is symbolic Christian theologans are not in agreement. However the theme of war famine death are familiar on a universal scale and I hope that this picture says something about the universal waste of human life from unnecessary suffering. 

 

Historical Apocalyptic literature as a genre of offers a great deal of flexibility for Christian artists to play around with the concepts, themes and ideas. to create grand dramas of global concequence. In my picture I have contrasted the tight drawing with the jarring, chaotic background space through which the figures are falling. The image is intentionally dissonant which is there to complement the dystopian, nightmare scene presented.
